Knitting as Art: A Fresh Take on Wearable Expression

Knitting as Art: A Fresh Take on Wearable Expression

Ever since I was 8, I’ve been drawn to classical music. I’d sit at a keyboard, picking out melodies by ear. That love for music stayed with me through school and into college, where I pursued it as one of my degrees. The other hobby I took up was also painting & art (on occasion) — but I was more serious in music.

In my mid-20s, life took over, and music slipped into the background. I didn’t have the time or space to play, and my focus shifted to my health. That creative side of me stayed quiet for a long time, aside from some watercolor painting. But in recent years, I’ve come to realize how much I love creating things that people can find real utility and joy in. I love when people can interact with the things I create.

How Knitting Became My Creative Outlet

Knitting emerged from a mix of things I wanted to pursue:

  • I craved more creative control over my wardrobe. The fashion industry felt repetitive — so many designs looked the same, and most were machine-made, lacking true artistry. Knitwear, in particular, felt uninspired.
  • I needed a creative outlet to process my experiences and reflect on my journey so far.
  • Most importantly, I wanted to create something meaningful and bring beauty back into the world. I realized that my form of art would be knits — functional, expressive, and crafted with intention.

The Blossom in Winter Collection

The Blossom in Winter Collection is inspired by my 2024 journey in engineering — a reflection of how I navigated and processed pivotal moments and experiences throughout the year.

I can say, the biggest lesson I learned more than once last year is that when people dim your light to make theirs shine brighter, it’s a reflection of their insecurity — not your worth. When you witness something unjust or fundamentally disagree with something, it’s essential to speak up. Silence only perpetuates the problem, but your voice can spark change.

While last year has been a big year of growth for me, this collection is my way of channeling those experiences — turning lessons into art, challenges into creativity, and personal transformation into something tangible you can wear.

About Me
I started making my own clothes because what I found in department stores were not resonating with me — they lacked the quality and connection I wanted to feel when wearing them. I wanted pieces that felt unique, intentional, and worth investing in. Through this journey, I discovered a passion for crafting garments that not only reflect individuality but also prioritize quality, sustainability, and thoughtful design. This passion ultimately led to the creation of Rivelle Knits, where I strive to redefine what it means to buy and wear clothing with purpose.
