Rivelle Knits' Philosophy: Purchase Less, Buy Intentionally

Rivelle Knits' Philosophy: Purchase Less, Buy Intentionally

The Core Philosophy Behind Our Knitwear

The inspiration for Rivelle Knits comes from my past—lessons in frugality, quality, and intentionality.

A Lesson in Frugality: How My Upbringing Shaped My Approach to Buying

I didn’t have much growing up as a first-generation American. My mom was a single parent, working tirelessly to make ends meet on minimum wage. Money was tight, and every purchase had to count—it wasn’t an option to keep replacing clothes from the mall (which feels like a relic now) or school supplies from Staples (if there are even any left). What we bought had to last for years, and this focus on longevity, quality, and durability became a cornerstone of our lives.

This mindset wasn’t just a product of our circumstances; it was a value deeply ingrained in my mom from her own upbringing. She didn’t splurge on the most expensive things; instead, she made thoughtful purchases where the value matched the price. She taught me that buying wisely isn’t about choosing the cheapest or the priciest—it’s about finding the balance where quality and purpose meet affordability.

A Lesson in Quality: Not Every High-End Product is Worth It

In 2021, I decided it was time to upgrade my wardrobe from casual sportswear to something more for everyday. I turned to Nordstrom’s, hoping to invest in high-quality pieces from “reputable” brands. After a few purchases, reality hit hard. I ended up with a $100 cotton shirt that developed a hole after just a few washes, a cashmere vest that started pilling after only a handful of wears, and a polyester sweater that looked worn and rugged after 3–4 outings.

These experiences were a harsh reminder that a high price tag 💸 or a well-known brand doesn’t always equate to quality or durability. It was an expensive lesson that shifted how I evaluate clothing and inspired my focus on intentional design with Rivelle Knits.

Driven to Build Better

These experiences inspired the foundation of Rivelle Knits. I wanted to create a brand that doesn’t just sell clothing but offers a promise of craftsmanship, sustainability, and thoughtful design. At Rivelle Knits, we believe in building better—not just for your wardrobe but for the planet. Each piece is intentionally crafted to last, encouraging you to buy less and choose intentionally.

About Me

I started making my own clothes because what I found in department stores wasn’t resonating with me—they lacked the quality and connection I wanted to feel when wearing them. I wanted pieces that felt unique, intentional, and worth investing in. Through this journey, I discovered a passion for crafting garments that not only reflect individuality but also prioritize quality, sustainability, and thoughtful design. This passion ultimately led to the creation of Rivelle Knits, where I strive to redefine what it means to buy and wear clothing with purpose.
